Auchinleck Talbot v Glenafton Athletic

Shettleston v Auchinleck Talbot

Pollok v Auchinleck Talbot

Very few Junior fixtures beat the weather & Talbot were left wishing the Arctic conditions had put paid to their visit to Newlandsfield.

Pollok made a sprightly start & almost took the lead within 2 minutes. Monti slid a well-weighted pass through to D Winters inside the area. He knocked it past Leishman, but from a tight angle his shot came back off the outside of the post & Leishman gathered.

Two minutes later Talbot’s defence were exposed by a long ball downfield from Longmuir. It came straight through to D Winters on the right side of the box who controlled it instantly before cutting it back toward Monti whose low drive was held by Leishman.
Action 11As the cliché goes, the goal was coming, and it arrived in the 5th minute. McAleenan hit the bye line down the left before pulling it back to the corner of the 6-yard box where MONTI guided it inside the right post.
Talbot recovered from their false start & Hyslop had a half chance in the 7th minute. Young flighted a good cross into the centre where Hyslop rose to loop a header back across goal but it flew wide of target.
Pollok threatened to extend their lead after 11 minutes. McGoldrick headed Mackenzie’s cross behind for a corner on the right and when it came over R Winters met it unopposed to head toward goal. His header was on target but appeared to be cleared out the goal mouth off his team mate Monti before coming to Walker whose tame volley was easily saved.
The next effort at goal came a minute later as Young threw himself to meet Latta’s cross but his diving header flew just wide of target.
The game then entered a lull, with both sides competing for every ball all over the park, but neither side remotely threatening.
That changed in the 23rd minute when Young pitched a good ball down the right for Wilson to chase. He was in behind the defence but Longmuir did well to race to the edge of his area to clear.
Talbot had a golden chance to equalise in the 28th minute. Following a good spell of Talbot possession and pressure the Bot won a corner down the right. Young aimed it to the far post where McGoldrick climbed to power a header on target. A defender cleared it off the goal line but only as far as Hyslop who somehow Action 6scooped the ball over the bar from 6 yards out.
Once again the game entered a sterile stage with neither keeper being troubled and little to keep the spectators warm.
It wasn’t until the 39th minute that the next noteworthy incident occurred as Talbot again went close to a leveller. Leishman hoisted a free kick deep into the Lok half which eluded the home defence. Shankland ran onto it inside the penalty area and attempted to knock it past the advancing Longmuir. The keeper got a touch to it but the ball looked to be drifting into the net until Hanlon raced back to hook the ball clear on the line.
Milliken then had two chances in quick succession. In the 1st instance he cut across the penalty area before firing wide of goal on his right foot, and then moments later he found himself in space just inside the Lok box but he pulled his left footed effort well wide of target.
It was all Talbot at this stage & Wilson was next to have an effort at goal when Shankland freed him inside the area. He drilled a low shot on target that Longmuir blocked but couldn’t hold before a defender completed the clearance.
Action 3On the stroke of half time Wilson broke down the left & swung a dangerous cross into the centre which Longmuir gathered under the bar and so Pollok made it into the interval 1-0 up.
Talbot started the 2nd half much sharper than they did the 1st and put together their best move of the game in the 47th minute. Latta knocked the ball up to Young who fed it inside to Shankland. He in turn rolled it into the path of Hyslop who was up ended by Williamson just outside the box, resulting in a booking for the Lok man & a Bot free kick. Unfortunately, Shankland couldn’t make anything of the opportunity & fired the set piece into the wall. It came out to Wilson on the right but his cross swung beyond everyone at the far post and behind for the goal kick.
White looked unfortunate to be penalised in the 50th minute when he won the ball in the air, only for the referee to award Pollok a free kick. Hanlon curled it in from the left right onto the head of Gallagher who glanced a header wide of the right post.
Down the other end Talbot came close in the 55th minute. Young pounced on a loose ball midway inside the Lok half before feeding it out to Shankland on the left. He released Milliken on the overlap & he fizzed a ball right across the face of goal that beat Longmuir but had no one to turn it in and flew behind for a goal kick.
Pollok made their 1st change in the 61st minute when Frye replaced McAlennan in midfield.
The home side had a great chance to kill the game off in the 68th minute. Mackenzie switched the ball out right to find Monti running clean through but Leishman raced off his line to narrow the angle and make the block.
A minute later Boyd had a pop at goal from 25 yards but his shot swerved away wide of the right post.
Pollok now made a further change with McLennan on for R Winters.
With quarter of an hour remaining Tucker made a double switch with Shankland & Milliken making way for S Wilson & Love.
The final stages were a bit of a damp squib with Lok content to run the clock down & Talbot unable to carve out any clear chances.
In the 82nd minute Higgins replaced Monti and the sub’s only telling contribution was to pick up a booking 4 Action 5minutes later when he marred a good run into the box with a feeble dive looking for a penalty.
With 2 mins remaining on the clock Talbot had their last chance to salvage a share of the spoils when they won a free kick deep in the Lok half. Young delivered it into the danger area where McGoldrick’s header on target was held by Longmuir.
This wasn’t Talbot’s day & we paid the price for a sluggish start & failing to convert a couple of good chances to level before the break. Still, it could have been worse and luckily, results elsewhere went our way so little has changed at the top of the table in what is turning out to be the most open league title in years. Next up for Talbot is a local derby when title rivals Glenafton visit Beechwood.

Auchinleck Talbot v Cumnock Juniors

tn2On paper this Scottish tie looked a potential banana skin for the Bot, with an in form Cumnock visiting Beechwood hoping to get one over on their rivals, but fortunately the tie was decided on grass not paper, and proved to be less problematic than many anticipated.
Cumnock have a miserable record at Beechwood but looked keen to rectify this as they made the stronger start.
In the 6th minute Watt turned Milliken out on the touchline & hared up the right into the penalty area where his cross was blocked behind by McGoldrick.
Talbot’s 1st chance to test the Nock defence came after 8 minutes. Woods clipped Wilson’s heels resulting in a Bot free kick out on the left. Pope swept it over to the far post where Hyslop climbed to meet it but bulleted his header over the bar.
The 1st close call of the afternoon came in the 17th minute. Esplin’s long diagonal ball caught the Bot defence out & sent Malone running in behind on the left; however, he failed to make the most of it, drilling a low shot across Leishman but wide of the left post.
Talbot hadn’t carved out a decent chance but gave Cumnock a lesson in clinical finishing when they opened the scoring after 22 minutes. Young cushioned a header into the path of WILSON who strode clear down the right side of the area before sliding a shot by Johnson into the back of the net.
Having gained the lead Talbot nearly gifted Cumnock a way back into it within a couple of minutes. McGoldrick tried to be too clever, and backheel the ball off Scott, surrendering possession out on the left touchline. Scott switched the ball into Malone inside the Bot area & he rolled it into the path of Burns who fired a tame effort straight at Leishman.
Malone had a half chance in the 25th minute. Johnson hoofed the ball downfield and Pope headed it clear. It came out to Hyslop but he took one touch too many & Malone nicked in to drive a shot wide of target.
Talbot put the Nock defence to the test on the half hour mark. Milliken laid the ball off to Wilson who in turn fed it out wide to Pope. He surged into the area & cut onto his right foot only to see his shot blocked. The ball came back to Pope & his 2nd effort spun off a defender & behind for a corner. Young whipped the corner into the near post where Watt headed it behind and it was déjà vu time from the 2nd corner as Young’s corner was heading in at the near post only for Watt to again to put it behind. On the 3rd attempt, Young curled it deep to the back post where Johnson threw himself backward to tip it away for another corner. Cumnock survived the siege and at the 4th attempt managed to clear their lines.
In the 34th minute, Cumnock won a free kick out on the left for a foul by Hyslop. The ball was delivered at pace into the centre where McGoldrick headed it clear. The ball came out to Watt outside the box who hit it 1st time but he drilled his shot straight at Leishman.
Crawford became the 1st name in the ref’s notebook in the 35th minute for a late challenge on Milliken & he was joined two minutes later by Pope for a foul on Watt.
The 2nd goal was going to be crucial and Talbot nearly doubled their lead in the 40th minute. Pope swept a great free kick over from the left right onto the head of Hyslop who was denied the goal by Johnson who produced a top save to tip it over the bar.
Young fired the corner into the near post where Watt sliced it straight behind for a 2nd corner. Young went deep with the 2nd corner and found the head of Hyslop who saw his effort cleared off the line.
The decisive moment in the match occurred on the stroke of half time. Eslin fouled Hyslop 25 yards out, right of centre, in the perfect area for a left footer to have a go at goal. POPE stepped up and curled a beauty inside Johnson’s left post which the keeper could only stand and admire to send Talbot 2-0 ahead at the interval.
Two goals adrift, Cumnock desperately needed an early goal back & they came out the blocks quickly after the interval. Malone showed good feet inside the Bot penalty area to turn Latta & create space but he over cooked it & after failing to take several chances to shoot he fell to the turf, unsuccessfully looking for a penalty.
Down the other end Talbot created an opening when Hyslop fed the ball out to Milliken on the right. He cut inside to create space on his stronger left foot but curled a weak shot straight at Johnson.
Hyslop saw yellow in the 52nd minute for a late challenge on Scott; he took the free kick himself but although he lifted it over the wall he hit it straight at Leishman.
Both sides made changes in the 54th minute. Love came on in place of Gillies for Talbot & Cumnock made a double switch with Lyndsay on for Crawford & McNeil replacing Scott.
Love almost made an immediate impact when he beat Johnson to a ball up the left wing, however having knocked the ball past the keeper, Lundie was there to cover and clear the danger.
Wilson had a decent effort at goal on the hour mark. He turned smartly on the right and fired just wide of target.
A minute later, Cumnock came as close as they would to scoring. McNeil met Watt’s long ball & headed it perfectly into the path of Malone. He looked set to score but Leishman was off his line like greased lightning to spread himself and make the block.
Play then immediately switched to the other end where Milliken had a good chance to kill the tie off. He found himself in space on the left of the area and fired a shot beyond Johnson but also wide of the left post.
Talbot were unlucky a minute later. Latta surged in from the right & played it into the feet of Milliken. He laid it back to Latta whose drive was deflected into the path of Love who saw his shot deflected just past Johnson’s right post.
Young whipped the corner right across the face of the 6-yard area but there were no takers.
Leishman, having a quiet game over all, produced a top class save to keep Talbot two goals ahead in the 73rd minute. Malone was challenged as he hit a shot and the ball spun kindly into the path of Burns whose low drive looked net bound until Leishman dived to his left to touch it wide of target.
With time running out Cumnock made their final change with Downs coming on for Esplin.
Talbot came within an inch of putting the game out of sight in the 76th minute. Love won a corner out on the left and when the ball came over Hyslop nodded it off the top of the bar with Johnson well beaten.
Two minutes later the Nock keeper prevented Milliken from adding a third for Talbot. He darted in from the right and powered a left foot shoot across goal which Johnson did well to save low to his right.
Cumnock pushed players forward in a last gasp attempt to pull a goal back but were caught on the counter with 10 minutes remaining. Love was racing clear down the right until rugby tackled by Downs who received a booking.
Young passed up a good chance to extend Talbot’s lead in the 81st minute. He played a good one-two with Love inside the area but couldn’t beat Johnson who made the block. The ball came out to Love but again Johnson made the save.
With 5 minutes remaining Tucker made a double switch with Hyslop & Graham Wilson making way for Shankland & Steven Wilson.
As the game moved into injury time Cumnock were reduced to 10 men. Downs sent McGoldrick crashing with a late challenge & having already been booked he made the short walk to the dressing room.
Talbot took full advantage of the extra man, adding a late 3rd goal deep into added time. Shankland switched the ball out to Young on the left & he floated a cross down the right of the box where Latta stretched to cut it back across goal for LOVE to slide it home.
A good win for Talbot, which books their place in the last 16 of this season’s Scottish. Next up for Talbot is a trip to Glasgow to face Pollok.

Auchinleck Talbot v Cumnock Juniors

Pollok v Auchinleck Talbot

Auchinleck Talbot v Kilbirnie Ladeside

Match report by Murray
Kilbirnie proved unwelcome first footers to Beechwood as they claimed all 3 points in this league fixture courtesy of a very soft penalty award.
The surface had held up well considering the amount of rain that’s fallen but a strong breeze made playing conditions far from ideal for both sides.
The opening exchanges saw both keepers put under pressure following free kicks. Firstly, Leishman had to race off his line to punch Miller’s free kick out the danger zone and minutes later Hughes just beat Hyslop to an aerial ball after Pope’s free kick deflected off Gray’s head.
The only goal of the game came in the 11th minute. Lyle intercepted an intended through ball & passed it straight back at Leishman. He tried to take a touch but mis-controlled it and the ball broke straight out to Forde. Leishman threw himself out to make the block but Forde got his shot away, firing well wide of the post, however to the shock of the Bot team and home support the referee awarded a penalty because Leishman made contact after he’d got the shot away.
Latta was booked for protesting the decision but once the dust settled, MILLER stepped up to send Leishman the wrong way and put Kilbirnie 1-0 ahead.
Talbot looked to grab an early goal back and had an effort on target within a minute. Young’s cross found Latta in space at the back post and he steered a header back across goal where Hyslop met it but his header went straight at Hughes.
The next effort at target came in the 20th minute. Talbot were caught offside midway inside the Blasties half and Hughes launched a free kick down the left. White failed to cut it out and it came straight to Gold who hit it 1st time but his effort swerved away from target and wide of the left post.
In the 24th minute Boyd intercepted the ball inside Talbot’s half and played it up to Wilson. He laid it back into the path of Milliken who drilled a powerful shot goal ward that Hughes parried.
O’Byrne, who had a good afternoon for the visitors, had a bit of good fortune in the 27th minute. Hyslop met Pope’s cross beyond the back post and cushioned a header across the 6-yard area where O’Byrne took a wild swipe at it but sliced it wide of target and behind for a corner.
Kilbirnie won a free kick in a good area after half an hour when Lyle impeded Gold just outside the box. Miller’s low strike clipped the wall but broke out into the path of Anderson whose shot was blocked by Latta. Once the ball went dead, the referee cautioned Boyd for an earlier offence.
Hylsop had a half chance in the 35th minute. Lyle’s cross found Milliken’s head and he nodded it down into Hyslop’s path but he didn’t make a clean connection and scuffed his shot wide of the left post.
Talbot continued to huff & puff but without making any real headway and for all their endeavour only tested Hughes once more before the interval, when Boyd picked the ball up and charged forward before firing a piledriver that unfortunately went straight at Hughes who parried it and gathered at the 2nd attempt.
The 2nd half got off to an inauspicious start for the Bot when Lyle conceded a free kick 25 yards out in the 48th minute. It looked to be too wide for a crack at goal but Miller tried to angle a shot inside the near post where Leishman gathered.
Talbot had a good chance to level in the 51st minute. A free kick out on the right touchline was hit square to Pope in space on the left. He played it up to Milliken who in turn laid it wide toward Wilson. He was challenged inside the area but the ball broke kindly to Young on the left of the penalty area; however, he pulled his shot across goal and wide of the far post.
It wasn’t Butch’s day in front of goal, and a minute later he spurned another opportunity to equalise. Latta’s hanging cross eluded the defence and landed at the feet of Young 8 yards out, unfortunately he didn’t connect properly, trundling a shot across the face of goal which Hyslop prodded home at the far post but it didn’t count as he’d been flagged offside.
Talbot came close again in the 58th minute. Hughes managed to punch a corner clear under pressure but it only came out as far as Latta whose 1st time volley took a slight deflection and flew inches wide of the right hand post.
On the hour mark Pope’s diagonal pass found Wilson running free on the right. He took a good 1st touch then rolled it inside for Hyslop who was in space at the edge of the box but he ballooned his shot high over the bar.
The referee, already unpopular with the Beechwood crowd for his poor penalty call, didn’t win anyone over with his next call either. It looked a guaranteed straight red for Ladeside’s Miller when he kicked out at Lyle with the ball nowhere near but the referee bottled the decision in front of the visiting fans and only produced a yellow card.
Talbot had dominated the start of the half and had their chances but crucially failed to make any of them count and another one got away in the 62nd minute. Pope fired a great cross into the centre which spun high into the air off O’Byrne’s head. It dropped down onto the head of Milliken at the back post but the ball seemed to hit him rather than him heading the ball and fell wide of target.
The Bot fans knew it wasn’t to be a few minutes later. O’Byrne conceded a free kick just outside the box for a foul on Milliken which Pope struck. He curled it over the wall & had the keeper beaten but it cannoned back off the crossbar.
Forde picked up a caution in the 69th minute for a reckless challenge on Lyle and was followed into the book soon after by Wilson for a late tackle on Gold.
Tucker made a double switch in the 72nd minute with Steven Wilson on for Graham and Shankland replacing Boyd, however the longer the half wore on the more comfortable Ladeside looked with Talbot making no impression in the final third.
Talbot’s final chance came in the 84th minute. Pope swept forward and hit a good, deep cross to find Young at the far post. With players lining up in the centre Young tried to head it across the face of goal but Hughes was well positioned and snatched it out the air inside his left post.
With 5 minutes remaining Talbot made their final change with Gillies coming on for Latta.
In the closing stages Talbot were caught on the counter and Ladeside nearly added a second. Milliken looked to be fouled inside the Ladeside half but the ref waved play on and Ladeside broke forward. The ball was slid through to Forde inside the area but Leishman was quickly off his line to narrow the angle and make the stop.
A disappointing afternoon for Talbot who now have to dust themselves off and prepare for next Saturday’s visit to Pollok.

Kilwinning Rangers v Auchinleck Talbot

TALBOT BLOWN AWAY
With the country watching the weather forecasts and the landing of Hurricane Frank, the small band of Talbot fans that attended this friendly match were introduced to Hurricane Buffs as the Super 1st club outplayed, out thought and out passed Talbot on the 3G surface of the Kilwinning Sports Centre.
This was a game where the Talbot fans who attended would have been left thinking that a night in front of Corrie wouldn’t have been a bad idea if they knew what fare that was in front of them.
Talbot made several changes in their starting line up with Dwayne Hyslop given the nod for the patch up centre half, with Steven Wilson and Lee Cochrane taking to the central midfield. Robert Love and Mark Shankland as the strike force with Martin Findlay on the left side of the midfield.
Talbot started the match playing against the gale and started brightly with Bryan Young and Roberet Love finding space down both flanks. The home side at first struggled to adjust to the ferocious winds but when they finally settled the started to pick holes in the Talbot defence. The opening goal came in the 20th minute when Deans whipped in a dangerous ball which Agnew got a head to and glanced the ball the ball into the net. A couple of minutes later Talbot were 2-0 down when the referee pointed to the spot after a Buffs player seemed to be up-ended and Hanvey gave Johnstone no chance.
Talbot fought back and fashioned a few chances but every one of them were off target, while the Buffs looked dangerous as they passed their way around the pitch trying not to over hit any loose balls. With the wind now howling the first half was ended with the home side deservedly in front.
Talbot introduced Graham Wilson and Davie Gillies for Robert Love and Bryan Young but over the next 45 minutes they proved to have all the cutting edge of a broken Easter egg as they were repeatedly starved of any ammunition by a dogged Buffs defence. Talbot were struggling badly and the passing that ensued was poor and ineffective. They did have a few chances but failed to hit the target except a decent free kick by Shankland which the keeper had to push over the bar. The closest Talbot had to hitting the net came about when Stevie Wilson and Fleeting the Buffs defender went in hard for a 50/50 ball and as it spun into the air it was carried goal ward by the wind where it blew over the keeper and scraped the post.
The game finally came to an end as the wind became so wild the ball spent more time on the terrace than the pitch and the final whistle was definitely welcomed by the players and supporters alike.
The only high point of the match was the display of Stevie Wilson who was by far the best on the night for Talbot, the amount of fouls committed against him was testament to this.
Johnston, Lyle, Pope, McGoldrick, Hyslop, Cochrane, Findlay, S.Wilson, Love (G.Wilson 45), Shankland (Milliken 68), Young (Gillies 45). Subs not used Latta, White.

Auchinleck Talbot v Troon

Talbot ensured they ended 2015 sitting atop the league table thanks to a hard fought win over Troon.
The playing surface was in pristine condition, considering the amount of rain that’s fallen recently, though a strong, swirling wind made it a difficult afternoon for both sets of players.
Talbot won the toss and elected to play to the Coal Road end, against the wind, an inspired decision as it turned out.
The 1st clear chance came Talbot’s way in the 6th minute. Cochrane swung a good cross into the centre which Wilson flicked on toward the back post. Young ran onto it and hit it 1st time but sent his shot wide of target.
Troon threatened on the counter-attack in the 9th minute. Spence broke down the centre before releasing it wide right to Harvey. He whipped a cross over that swirled beyond Leishman but carried past the far post and out for a goal kick.
Talbot won a free kick in shooting range in the 14th minute following a foul on Hyslop. Pope & Wilson both left it to one another, before Wilson finally took it but he got too much on it and sent his shot sailing high off target.
The breakthrough came in the 17th minute and it was a well-worked move. Young sent the ball inside to Boyd who switched play out to Cochrane on the right. He freed Lyle on the overlap and he fired a cross to the back post where Young guided a header back across goal and HYSLOP applied the finishing touch from close range.
The lead almost proved short-lived when McGoldrick came close to an own goal in the 19th minute. Harvey’s low cross cannoned off him and flew up onto the crossbar before going behind for a corner kick.
Wilson did well in the 27th minute when he spun on the edge of the area before releasing a reverse pass toward Young. Butch would’ve been clean through on Semple but for a timely interception from Keenan.
The next effort at goal came on the half hour mark. Pope played it into the feet of Wilson and he teed it up for Hyslop to strike but he fired it well wide of target.
Keenan tested Leishman in the 35th minute when he drilled a daisy cutter on target from 25 yards that Leishman held low to his left.
Two minutes later it was Talbot back on the attack. Milliken knocked the ball out wide to Young who did well to keep the ball in play. He then skinned Harvey, raced into the box and fired a dangerous low ball across goal which McKnight cleared. It came straight back out to Young who hit it 1st time and curled it wide of the far post.
Harvey was proving to be Troon’s most dangerous player and he had the Bot defence at full stretch in the 40th minute. He found space on the right and whipped a cross into the centre which McGoldrick managed to scramble clear.
Talbot doubled their lead in the 42nd minute. Wilson won a corner off Collins on the right and when Young whipped the corner across the 6-yard box it appeared to hit the hand of a Troon defender. The ball fell to HYSLOP and he stretched out a leg to fire it into the roof of the net to send Talbot in 2 goals ahead at the interval.
Troon came out flying at the start of the 2nd half as they looked to get an early goal back and their 1st chance came in the 47th minute when Lyle conceded a free kick 30 yards out. Keenan took it and curled a shot past the wall that Leishman gathered inside his right post.
Two minutes later Troon threatened down the right. Harvey looked to be caught by Pope just outside the area but the ref allowed the advantage as it broke to Forsyth inside the area. He took a touch and fired for goal but his shot was blocked by McGoldrick.
Troon continued to press and they had the Bot defence at full stretch in the 56th minute. Harvey swept a cross in from the right that eluded everyone in the centre before coming out to Moore on the left edge of the penalty area. He angled a shot at goal that Lyle blocked behind for a corner.
Talbot managed to clear the resultant corner out the area but only as far as Keenan and he knocked an early ball back into the 6-yard box where Forsyth managed to get on the end of it but he only succeeded in flicking it straight at Leishman.
Troon now made their 1st change with Muir coming on for McKenna.
The visitors very nearly pulled one back in the 62nd minute. Milliken lost possession around halfway and Troon swiftly countered down the right, feeding the ball into the feet of Forsyth and he fired a shot an inch wide of Leishman’s left post.
Tucker made a double switch in the 64th minute with Gillies replacing Wilson up front and Latta coming on in place of Cochrane.
Talbot had spent most of the 2nd period on the back foot but very nearly moved 3 ahead in the 70th minute. Milliken’s ball in from the left wing found Hyslop inside the box and he laid it off to Latta whose shot was arrowing into the back of the net until Semple dived full length to his right to touch it round the post.
Two minutes later Milliken had a golden chance to kill the game off. Latta flighted a good ball over the defence and Milliken sped away from Collins clean through on Semple. He could’ve carried on into the box but instead opted to hit it early and blazed his shot way over the bar.
Talbot made their final change in the 77th minute when Shankland came on to replace Milliken.
Having weathered Troon’s early 2nd half pressure Talbot were now comfortably in control and looked the more likely to grab the next goal.
In the 79th minute Pope swung a free kick in behind the defence that Gillies was inches from connecting with.
Two minutes later and Talbot won another free kick, this time just outside the penalty area for a foul on Shankland. Pope swung it into the centre where Collins headed it clear.
Troon made a change with 7 minutes remaining when Curragh came on for Harvey.
The referee hadn’t produced a card all afternoon but that changed in the 86th minute when he booked 3 players over the one incident. Muir was shown a yellow card for a cynical challenge that sent Pope to the turf as he raced free on the left. Pope was then cautioned for his reaction to the challenge and Keenan also received a booking for getting involved.
Deep into injury time Talbot had a final chance to add to their lead. Boyd played a great pass through to Shankland to send him through down the left. He raced into the area and fired a low shot across goal but it slipped just past Semple’s left hand post.
This was an impressive win from Talbot who did all the damage in the 1st half and defended resolutely when Troon applied pressure after the interval.
