Mick presents medal

Talbot physio Mick McGinn rewarded his sponsor Davie Wilson by handing over his League Winners medal at the Kilmarnock match. Davie is one of a group of supporters and businesses that help Talbot financially by sponsoring a player or member of the coaching staff.

This was a lovely gesture by Mick and much appreciated by Davie. If you would like to sponsor a player then please get in touch with Colin Chisholm or any member of the committee.

Allan’s Angle

Firstly sorry for the late article but due to work commitments I was unable to get in touch with the website but better late than never. Unfortunately injuries are plaguing us early on and it didn’t help with the injury sustained by Steven Wilson against Bo’ness. Steven picked up a slight knock which needs rested and we fully expect to see him out for a couple of weeks however Dwayne and Graham started light running at training and both should be in back with the rest of the guys within the next few weeks.  On the signing front we are still actively pursuing players and hope to add a couple of new faces in the coming weeks. We have been linked with a number of players but this is speculation by the media and the club will keep all our supporters up to speed as soon as anything happens.

The players are looking to get back into action and champing at the bit for Saturdays game.

The officials for the match are: Referee Ronnie Strain, Assistants Ross Nelson, Matthew Lee

Muirkirk v Talbot Preview

Talbot head to Burnside Park in Muirkirk for their first competitive match of the 2016/17 season on the back of a comprehensive 3-0 thumping by Bo’ness United. Injuries and non-appearances hampered the selection prospects of manager Tommy Sloan who had to name himself as a substitute and with the loss of six of last years squad to pick from the outcome was inevitable considering the the class of the opposition.

The only pleasing point of the Bo’ness game was the fact that all four of this season’s new signings played a big part in the match. Our only concern was a facial injury to Willie Lyle, but he should be okay for selection this Saturday. Due to work commitments we couldn’t contact Allan McLuckie so at this moment we are unaware of any signings or injury updates, but we do know that Dwayne Hyslop and Martin McGoldrick should be fit while Graham Wilson needs a bit more recuperation.

The rumour mill has us linked to a striker and a good source intimated that signing terms could be agreed. However the player in question was mention in dispatches that he was turning out for a South of Scotland side so at this moment we are unable to confirm any information.

As for Saturdays match we go into this encounter as massive favourites against probably the youngest side in the ADL. Manager George Greirson has put together a decent squad as he aims to emulate Muirkirk’s last season exploits. The “Kirk” have been busy pre-season with a 1-0 win over Creetown from the SOSL but lost out 2-0 to Ayr United Academy and last Saturday were on the end of a 6-1 defeat up at Hill O’ Beath.

The weather for the match looks like being dry with light cloud with the temperature sitting at 16o with a 40% chance of rain. Admission to the match is £6 and £3.

Regeneration Committee asking for help

The BRC are asking for help from the fans to put them in the direction of somebody who is capable of fitting their new anti-pigeon netting on the seated part of the stand. The BRC were given the netting by a supporter who wants to remain anonymous. The pigeons have caused extensive damage throughout the close season and the committee are desperate for help. If anybody can do this type of work or knows of somebody then please get in touch. Members of the BRC are always present in the stand during match days.

Also a number of seats have been the subject of vandalism. This has been a bugbear for the committee and one of the reasons that unaccompanied children are not allowed into the stand.

Allan gives his insight on the United visit

Talbot host Bo’ness United this Saturday which will be a good pointer to the start of the season. The East Region club have had a good start to their pre-season matches with wins over amateur club Linlithgow Thistle 4-0 and Lowland League club Stirling University who they hammered 6-1. They held a decent Livingston FC side to a 2-2 draw on Wednesday night and will definitely be up for the challenge when they visit Beechwood.

Allan McLuckie is certainly looking forward to the game and added “United look on paper to be a decent outfit and this is the sort of game that we like to be involved in. The new lads will be definitely tested because United are dangerous going forward. No matter who is in our defence they will have to be on their toes.”

Asked about the recent new signings Allan replied “ Grant and Neil have certainly bedded in due to taking part in the three previous friendly matches. Danny has just come back from holiday so we are using him sparingly till he get up to speed, however that’s not to say he won’t start Saturdays game. We also decided to give Brian game time by introducing him during the Kilmarnock game and giving him the full 90 minutes against Annbank.”

Once again the Talbot supporters were perturbed about the lack of bodies for their midweek match at New Pebble Park but Allan was a bit more laid back on the subject. “We have three injured players who have niggles rather than actual injuries and we are not risking them in games that are not bread and butter. Dwayne and Graham have carried a knock from last season while Martin picked up wee twinge against Craigmark. We are hoping that the players will be ready before we travel to Muirkirk.”

On the signing front there have been a few rumbles among the support but Allan was forthright by stating. “I can let everybody know we are actively seeking to strengthen the squad at every opportunity. We have approached players and for some reason whether it was theirs or our decision  they are not here at Beechwood. We know what we need and we will go all out to get those positions filled. We have made four superb signings so far and there will be more to come. We want players who will push to be in the starting line up but they are thin on the ground so it is difficult. We have the backing of the club to talk to whoever we want, but we will not be rushed into signings that won’t benefit the team. I can only ask you to be patient as we are only a couple of more players away from having a good all-round squad.”

Saturday’s match will be the last before the start of the Ardagh Cup section matches.
