Coldstream Museum will host the draw for the William Hill Scottish Cup preliminary rounds next week as this season’s competition gets under way.

The museum is currently running an exhibition called ‘Frontiers: The Berwickshire Football Story’ which covers the history of the game in the area.

It also mark the 125th anniversary of Coldstream FC, who will be involved in the preliminary round draws.

The first and second preliminary round draw will take place on Monday 18 July at 6.15pm and are open to the public.

There will be three parts to the preliminary round draws:

The first part will determine which seven clubs from ten receive a bye to the second preliminary round. The clubs participating in this part of the draw are:

Banks O’Dee
Burntisland Shipyard Amateurs
Coldstream
Edusport Academy
Girvan
Glasgow University
Golspie Sutherland
Linlithgow Rose
Threave Rovers
Wigtown and Bladnoch

The three clubs which do not receive a bye into the second round will enter the first preliminary round draw alongside:

Five ties will be drawn in the first preliminary round to be played on Saturday, 13 August 2016.

The final part of the draw will be for the second preliminary round and will feature the five ties drawn in the first preliminary round (and the corresponding clubs) and the seven clubs which received a bye to this round earlier.

Six ties will be drawn in the second preliminary round to be played on Saturday, 3 September 2016.

Auchinleck Talbot got a major boost before their LSY Testimonial against Kilmarnock when the Rugby Park side intimated that they will be putting out a full strength squad against the Talbot. Killie manager Lee Clark wants to blood a few of his new stars who have still to rack up game time and it’s believed that Talbot would be the perfect opposition.

Lee will be accompanied by a squad of 24 and a backroom staff that contains ex-Killie, Wigan and Rangers player Lee McCulloch. McCulloch will be no stranger to the Junior game after playing with Cumbernauld United before being picked up by Motherwell.

Killie manager Lee Clark who has the distinction of playing for both Newcastle and Sunderland has been busy in the transfer market since keeping Killie in the top flight after defeating Falkirk in the play-offs. He has brought a number of young stars from the English game to bolster his squad including striker Souleymane Coulibaly who comes to the club from Peterborough FC. His footballing career started when he moved to Italy and has included an international career with the Ivory Coast U17 team. Whilst playing for them he finished as the top goal scorer at the 2011 Under-17 World Cup.

The games will kick off at 2pm on Sunday the 24^th of this month and the Kilmarnock squad should be at Beechwood at 12.45 so if you want to see the Premier League stars then get down early. Talbot will be producing a souvenir programme for the match costing £2. Admission is £5 or £3 concession.

A one-off strip is being produced for the Testimonial Match on Sunday 24 July between Auchinleck Talbot and Kilmarnock F.C. The Testimonial Committee has decided to make a very limited number available (1 – 18) to supporters at the price of £50.00 with proceeds going to the Testimonial Fund.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Accountant A.C. Davidson showed a healthy balance sheet for the year ending 31 March 2016 before secretary Henry Dumigan’s positive report was accepted by a much improved attendance on Sunday past. Beechwood Regeneration Committee member David Gibson took the chair and thanked the committee for their efforts, the committee was then re-elected en bloc to serve the club in the season ahead.

THE JOHN DAVIDSON AWARD

The John Davidson Award for season 2015/16 has been won by Douglas Aitken in recognition of his voluntary work on the ground staff at Beechwood Park. The award will be presented to Douglas prior to our League Match v Beith Juniors on Sat 3 September 2016

The clubs that Talbot could face in the William Hill Scottish Cup 1st Preliminary Round has been released and with the Juniors having five clubs in the first 17 teams it looks likely that an all Junior tie could be a probability. The first matches will be played on the 13th August. We await the draw which hopefully throws us a bye.

The website today secured Talbot TV’s Aaron Cyr who will be reconstructing the websites look and updating his videos. Aaron who has had website experience with Hurlford was only to happy to help and this has pleased webmaster Jim McAuley. Jim added “I loved keeping my wee Pitchero website going but it was a simple set up. This one is away above my head and its good news that Aaron has came on board. He has a free reign and I believe he will certainly enhance the look of the website as well as posting his excellent video’s, this leaves me free to concentrate on the more mundane aspects of the website.”

Jim has been busy over the close season enrolling fellow supporters to help out and adding Allan McLuckie and photographer Paul Flynn.

Talbot manager Tommy Sloan was in top form at the recent AGM as he highlighted his signing policy for this season. So far 13 players have been signed up with the manager looking for at least another four. Tommy told those present that he was looking for players who would challenge for positions and although he admitted he had some irons in the fire he remained tight lipped about who they were.

With holidays and a couple of players with niggling injuries it looks like Talbot’s opening pre-season games could involve a few trialists. When asked about the signing of Danny Boyle the manager replied that he was in the same mould as Mark Campbell and will be a big asset to the club. He also mentioned new keeper Brian Hewitt who he described as a good keeper with plenty of experience. He should be a great mentor for big Andy Leishman as Tucker pointed out it was himself that was trying to coach Andy. “Brian has bags of experience and played with a lot of top clubs, he is definitely a good signing.

Talbot take on Newtongrange this Saturday with a 2pm kick off.

There was a decent turnout at the Talbot AGM held in the Social Club. The gathered throng were put through the financial state of the club by Clark Davidson who detailed Talbot were in a healthy state of affairs and congratulated the club committee and fans for their continued fundraising.

Club Secretary Henry Dumigan pointed out to the meeting that if Talbot were to survive and keep their stature in the Junior game then they need young blood on the committee. Henry added that although the current committee are not in the dinosaur category he did intimate that it would be good to get some younger members or supporters into the committee.

The meeting was then chaired by David Gibson from the BRC and the current committee were voted on en-bloc.

There was a minutes silence before the meeting to remember the supporters that are no longer with us.

Talbot would like to thank everybody who attended.

Talbot’s first pre-season friendly involves a visit from East cracks Newtongrange Star. The Star who are now under the guidance of former Musselburgh gaffer Stevie McLeish have added a number of influential signings for the start of this season. A number of them come from McLeish’s old club Musselburgh and this looks like being a tough encounter.

Talbot to date have only added two new signings but have lost the services of Davie Gillies, Scott Johnston, Willie Boyd, Robert Love and Martin Findlay. Goalkeeper Scott Johnston has joined ADL Champions Girvan while Robert Love has joined Largs Thistle. Davie Gillies has joined up with his old team mate Gavin Friels at Dalry Thistle.

The Talbot website are pleased to announce that Talbot assistant coach Allan McLuckie has agreed to write a weekly article for the website. Allan will take time out to answer questions and put his points across to the Talbot support. We look forward to hearing from Allan.
