TALBOT OFFER REWARD

The ground recently suffered two break ins a few weeks ago, first the refreshment stall where a
number of sweets were stolen, then the large portacabin where items of memorabilia was also
stolen. Auchinleck Talbot FC is offering a reward for information that leads to the arrest and
prosecution of those responsible.

Beechwood Regeneration Update

Beechwood Regeneration Project
It’s been quite a few weeks since the last home game but that’s not stopped the beechwood regeneration committee continuing to make progress with upgrading the spectator facilities at the park.

First of all the stand seats have been fully replaced and the stand is open for business again. Robbie Robertson has been immense together with alec gemmell in getting the seats installed. Thanks go to the guys for all their hard work. The next stage is to get netting up to protect the seats from those pesky pigeons. Last thing will be repainting the full stand but that will be for another day, or maybe even year.

Main thing that you will notice today is that the new toilet blocks are now in place. Much needed I’m sure everyone will agree. Finishing touches have still to be made. One of the toilets is to be converted for disabled access but plans are in place for this to be completed soon. Grants from the Scottish Football Partnership and Minerals Trust have been a major factor in this project and our thanks go to both funding bodies. Our thanks also go to local companies Plantfinder and Silverbirch for providing, transporting and installing the units. Special mention for Dougie aitken and the groundstaff for all their hard work as well. It was a major operation to get the units across the pitch and there were a few anxious faces as nearly 40 tonnes of lorry and bogs crept slowly over the beechwood turf. Thought the toilets might be needed sooner rather than later at one point! No need to worry as the impact was minimal due to the dry weather and careful
preparation. So,all being well, toilets will be open soon and fans will have a bit more comfort than previously experienced. With winter approaching that has to be a good thing!

What’s next? Well, plans are afoot to convert the hospitality portakabin next to the small enclosure into the new catering unit or pie hut in other words. We know traditionally this is not where the pie hut is but it will hopefully give Andy better facilities for cooking the grub. As the editor is no longer familiar with what a pie tastes like, at least it will keep his diet coke cooler! Hospitality will move to the large portakabin next to the main stand and we hope to have John holroyd’s memorabilia shop moved to where the pie hut currently is. This might need iron bars and strong locks after the recent break-in. We hope the culprits are caught soon as it is not what john deserves after all the money he’s raised.

So, it’s all change for the facilities at beechwood and we hope you’ll agree for the better. Keep you posted in the next issue with how things are going and what’s happening next.

“Sparky” Retires

After consultation with his doctor concerning the knee injury sustained against Hurlford United, Mark Campbell has decided to retire from football. The club and of course the supporters have been deeply saddened by the news as Mark has been a major part of a successful team and it will take a search of the highest magnitude to replace him.
Mark is an Auchinleck boy and an avid Talbot supporter. He has had a glittering career in senior football as well as the Juniors. The winning of the Scottish Cup last season will be a great memory for Mark as well as the legions of the Talbot Army who attended the cup final to witness a magnificent moment where an Auchinleck boy lifted Junior footballs highest accolade.
Talbot wish him a speedy recovery and hope that although he has retired from the field of play that he decides to pursue a career in the game. Mark was a gentleman on and off the pitch and his experience was second to none.

Talbot honour Legends

Talbot legends George Gemmell, George Rattray and Ross Findlay were inducted into the Talbot Hall of Fame on the 7th of November at the Talbot Social Club. The trio are Talbot folklore and are a massive part of the resurrection of the club during the late 70’s and beyond. A packed hall enjoyed a night of music and dancing along with some well spoken recollections from the players themselves.

TALBOT TRAVEL TO KINNOUL

THE SCOTTISH CUP 3RD ROUND DRAW
After our good win at Tranent last week we have now been paired with Tayside club Kinnoul Juniors from Perth. This is our seventh away draw out of a possible eight if you take into account the quarter final Ardagh match against Maybole.
Kinnoul play in the bottom rung of the East Region Juniors and progressed into the third round with a 3-1 away win over Fraserburgh.
The news of the draw has certainly excited the locals and this was taken from their facebook account.
“Scottish Cup 3rd Round Draw –
Kinnoull’s prize for defeating North Region side Fraserburgh Utd is a home tie against the Junior Cup holders Auchinleck Talbot. The Ayrshire giants of Junior football defeated Musselburgh Athletic 2-1 in the final last season. My first ever Scottish Cup venture with Kinnoull was in 2003 – when we were drawn against ‘The ‘Bot’ in the 1st Rd. A trip to Beechwood Park resulted in a 5-1 defeat for Kinnoull but was still a great Scottish Cup day out – and Kinnoull look forward to returning the favour, 12 years on!”
Kinnoul’s Tulloch Park which is supposed to be situated near Muirton Park is an open air affair so it will be brolly’s and gloves as winter kicks in.The draw threw up some tasty ties with last years finalists Musselburgh travelling to Petershill while dark horses Bo’ness head to Troon. The East big guns have been landed with some banana skin games, Kelty going to Clydebank, Camelon at high flying Kilsyth, Sauchie at Kilwinning and Cumbernauld going to Linlithgow.
The games that might throw up a shock could be down at Girvan where Beith are visiting while Ardrossan Winton Rovers could give Hill O’ Beath a game and a half.Apart from Petershill and Troon the West Premier clubs should all progress with Kilbirnie facing the toughest task against Dundee Violet.
The games to be played 21ST November.
