PLAYING STAFF UPDATE

Bryan Boylan was last week transferred to Kilwinning Rangers. Bryan featured 114 times over 4 seasons scoring 31 times for the Club

Todays league match at Darvel has become a victim to the overnight frost and will be rescheduled at a later date.

Striker Bryan Boylan has rejoined Kilwinning Rangers after coming from the North Ayrshire side in 2019. It was a horror start to the players Talbot career after he suffered a serious injury in a pre-season match at Irvine Victoria. After a three month lay-off the Talbot fans got their first look at Bryan when he came off the bench, scoring twice against Bellshill in a Scottish Cup tie. Three weeks later he picks up the man off the match award as he scores twice in Talbot’s West Region League Cup final win over Lanark United. Unfortunately Covid ends this particular season, along with completely cancelling out football the following season.

On return to football in the July 2021 Bryan was an integral cog in Talbot’s machinery as he helped the club win the Scottish Junior Cup along with the South Challenge Trophy.

Last season he won a West of Scotland medal after our 2-0 win over Clydebank and although he was late to join this season he has been an important player, scoring our equaliser against Brig of Don and scoring in his last competitive match for Talbot at Vale of Leven.

The club are definitely sad to see him go, but wish him all the best in his new role at the “Buffs”

Our recent novelty fundraiser “Last Man Standing” kicked off with 72 players. The inaugural competition started in November and without doubt the entry would have been higher had the club had more favourable fixtures over the past few weeks.

This type of competition can last for weeks and is great for stimulating interest in matches that would otherwise be of little interest. As it turned out, we had an outright winner after only five rounds as Jim Halliday remained the only undefeated tipster.

Jim was delighted to be presented with his pre-Christmas prize (£360) by organiser Jim Dunsmore in the Talbot Social Club and the same amount of money will be donated to Auchinleck Talbot towards the end of the season, with hopefully more to be added from future tournaments.

Due to a culmination of factors such as the busy seasonal programme in England over Christmas and New Year followed by the participation of the top clubs in the FA Cup and allied to Talbot not having a home match until early January, the next tournament will be delayed and will commence on Saturday 13^th January.

We would be delighted if more people came on board so contact the organisers for further details if you would like to take part in the fun and help the club at the same time.

For the record, this is how the matches panned out:

Talbot head into the festive period on a high after a tricky tie up in Alexandria against Vale of Leven. Goals by Jamie Glasgow, Kyle McAvoy, Bryan Boylan and Nathan Lennox saw Talbot progress into the next round where they will face Hurlford in the quarter finals after the Blair Park side overcame Caledonian Locomotives with a 96nd minute winner. The tie is scheduled for February the 10th with a 2pm kick off. The revised quarter final draw is as follows:

Talbot’s Scottish Cup tie at Vale of Leven’s Millburn Park should beat the weather as forecasters have the Alexandria area pencilled in for dry weather Wednesday and Thursday and light showers on Friday and Saturday. The tie was lost on the 2nd of December due to hard frost but with the weather improving slightly we should look forward to a real battle as both sides recorded decent results at the weekend.

Vale moved up to third place in the WOSL 3rd Division to leapfrog Finnart who they defeated on Saturday at Springburn Park in a match that saw a sending off for the home side and seven yellows in a tough encounter.

The Vale rely heavily on their youth set up with most of the squad coming through the Under 20’s including top goalscorer Greg Thackrey. They also have a number of players who have vast experience higher up the pyramid like keeper Evan Currie who had spells at Beith, Rob Roy and Bonnyton Thistle while Adam Monaghan is a player that many of us remember in his time at Kilbirnie.

The game is still a 1.30 KO and straight to penalty’s. The winners will be at home in the next round against Hurlford United or Caledonian Locomotives.

This was our first Saturday home match since playing Rob Roy on 28^th October and the sponsor’s lounge was filled for the visit of Troon.
