YOUTH ACADEMY MATCH REPORT

TALBOT 03

Talbot 5-2 Dean Thistle

First home game of the season and back to winning ways, Talbot started well and went up 2-0 early on with goals from Michael Kane and Jay Waddell, dean pulled 1 back with a long range freekick, Talbot went in though 2-1 up at half time

Second half

Back and forth with not much happening and then Talbots keeper Michael Nolan pulls off a good save and at the other end deans goalie pulls one off from a Michael McCulloch volley, Dean we’re then awarded a soft penalty with 10 minutes left which they converted leaving the goalie with no chance and this seemed to spark the Talbot into action with Jay Waddell racing clear and with composure slotted Home , after a nice passing move Zak smith joined him on the scoresheet by finding the bottom right corner of the net , Callum Walker put the tie to bed with a cracking first time volley on his unfavoured left foot that he caught nicely and the lads took the 3 points

Blacks:-

Very difficult day for the boys against a decent Glenburn team. Very disappointing today, very little passing, pressing or tackling… boys were very passive , just stood back and happy for opposition to have the ball and let them play. Camped in our own half most of the game but when we did start getting out and getting further up the pitch in the second half we didn’t support the striker enough. Hard shift for Luke today battling away himself upfront but he stuck at it. Lots to work on at training on Tuesday.

Motm Luke hannah

Golds-

Similar storyto the blacks unfortunately. Camped in our own half most of the game due to our own errors mostly. Giving the opposition the ball far too easily. Holding back in the tackles as well. But all things we can work on and improve.

On the rare occasions we did get up the park we did cause them some trouble and got a couple of goals too.

Motm- finlay mcroberts for his 2 goals well done finlay

2008s

Talbot welcomed Ayr Boswell to Merlin Park, a fiery fixture that has served up a few crackers over past couple of seasons.

Blacks……With only 7 available players the Talbot boys had a lot asked of them to play a full game with no subs.

This aside Talbot started the brighter and moved the ball about well putting together passing moves and creating chances only lacking the clinical edge. Eventually after soaking up a spell of pressure Talbot hit Boswell on the counter to take the lead. This gave the game the lift it needed and brought it to life, also bringing with a short spell of calamities from both teams allowing Boswell to level and then for Talbot to get there noses back in front. A few meaty challenges and also a few very soft fouls gave Ayr Boswell’s touchline something to shout about, although this going against us as boys lost concentration and come Half time found ourselves 1 goal down. Second half went a lot like the first both teams creating chances, putting together well structured attacks but also making some costly mistakes in the wrong areas. Tiredness started to creep in with a lot of red faces and heavy breathing in the black and gold strips, this allowing Boswell to take the lead in the dying moments of the game after our hard efforts to get back into the match. Overall the Talbot could not be faulted for there effort and all gave 110%.

Golds….

With only 6 available outfield players and 2 goalies, today was always going to be difficult. Talbot battled well in the first half but only had a goal from Anderson to show from it. The new formation, some new positions and both gk having to take a shot outfield to give the boys a break contributed to a difficult first half. Second half Talbot started the better team and couple of tweaks to the positions and Talbot we’re back in the game through a second half hat trick from Meikle. A really hard fought game from both teams and a big improvement from last week.

A special mention to Douglas Schendel, playing in an unfamiliar position and defending really well throughout the game.

Talbot 08s would like to wish Ayr Boswell all the best for the rest of the season.

TASS 3-3 TALBOT

A close game today for the lads away to Tass at ardeer quarry. An excellent cross from TJ Graham was met at the back post by Harry Biggans which broke the deadlock and sent Talbot up 1-0. The lads dropped their focus for a brief period allowing Tass to take advantage which sent them into the lead. Talbot worked hard to claw the game back and a goal from Gavin Kirkland seen the game back level at 2-2. Another goal from Tass against the run of play sent Talbot trailing again until a top bag free kick from TJ Graham once again put the game level at 3-3. The lads continued to pressure Tass right till the final whistle but were unfortunately unable to find the winning goal.

Talbot 5-1 Kilwinning Rangers

Talbot finally got their season started this week with Kilwinning Rangers visiting the Merlin park. With conditions wet and windy, it looked like it could be an interesting afternoon.

Talbot came out the blocks fast and took the lead within 1 minute when the ball broke to McClung on the edge of the box and he fired home, 1-0. Talbot continued to press and added to their lead on the 10th minute when the ball broke to McLean 6 yards out and he put the ball in the back of the net, 2-0. Talbot pushed really hard for the remainder of the first half, but were unable to add to their lead. Half time 2-0

Kilwinning started the second half better and had a few chances before a brake away from Talbot resulted in a cross to the back post and a terrific header from Wright made it 3-0 on 55 mins. Within 5 mins Kilwinning got a goal back after a scramble in the Talbot box, 3-1. Talbot were now dominating possession and were playing keep ball for long spells. With 20mins to go Talbot scored the goal of the game when a corner fell to McClung about 20yards out and he fired an unstoppable drive into the top corner, 4-1. Kilwinning were now getting pulled all over the pitch with Talbots passing game a joy to watch. With 10 mins to go Talbot added a 5th goal when the Kilwinning midfielder had a wild swing at the ball and it looped over his own goalies head and made it 5-1.

A superb performance today from Talbot,
