TALBOT TO THE FORE.

Report: Murray Steele, Photography: Craig McGee, Media: Ross Newlands.

The travelling support couldn’t have asked for a better start to the season as Talbot got off to a flier with a demolition job on Hurlford.

The home side had the first effort at goal when Morrison sent a snapshot over the bar from 20 yards in the 3rd minute.

“Macca” can’t hide his delight after hitting the back of the net.
Talbot’s first effort of the afternoon came in the 9th minute when Wilson let fly from distance – arrowing a shot on target but straight at McDonald.
Two mins later Talbot had a half chance from a corner. The corner was pulled back into the path of Clark who fired it across goal but wide of the far post.
In the 13th minute Boyd saw his low drive blocked by McDonald. It came out to McAvoy just inside the box but his shot was blocked by a defender and ran through to the keeper.
The Bot got in behind the Ford defence in the 19th min when Sime’s pass sent Schoneville racing free. He cut it back across the penalty area but it went behind everyone in the centre before being cleared.
A minute later Talbot came close to the opener. Gillies fed it out wide to McAvoy who pulled it back to the edge of the area to find Langan. He turned and got his shot away only to see it hit a defender. The ball ricocheted out left to McAvoy who fired it just wide of the right post and into the side-netting.

Talbot took the lead with 24 mins gone. McAvoy played in Boyd down the right of the penalty area and he squared it across for EWAN

“Connor shields the ball from the United defender.

THOMSON to stroke it home.

Within a minute Talbot doubled their advantage. Muir arrowed a ball over the Ford defence to find Boyd down the right. He burst into the penalty area and again squared it across goal where KYLE MCAVOY slid it home to make it 2-0.
It could have been three in the 27th minute. Thomson knocked it out wide to Boyd who played it back into the area where Thomson had continued his run but he sent his volley over the bar.
Hurlford had a rare chance to test the Bot defence in the 34th min when they won a free kick out on the right. It was angled into the area but was too far ahead of Love and was safely gathered by Muir.
Two mins later the home side won a free kick 35 yards out – moments after the ref had waved away a strong shout for a Talbot free kick. Morrison took it and drove it low into the wall before it spun behind for a corner which McAvoy headed clear.
Talbot saw the half out without any drama to go in with a two goal advantage at the break.

The next goal was going to be crucial and Hurlford nearly pulled one back in the 48th minute. Morrison gathered on the left of the penalty area and played it across to Kerr who fired just wide of the right post.

Ewen Thomson gets the second half off to a flyer.
It was then game over as Talbot raced up the park to add to their lead. Sime sent Clark away on the right and he burst into the area before cutting it back into the path of EWAN THOMSON who steered it home to put Talbot 3-0 ahead.
In the 51st min McLean had his name taken when he caught McAvoy from behind with a late challenge and 3 mins later Langan joined him in the notebook for a late tackle on Whittaker.
Hurlford now made a double change with Watt & Armstrong on in place of Whittaker & Hughes.
On the hour mark Talbot made a triple substitution with McAvoy, Thomson & Langan making way for Nimmo, Wardrope & Main.
Nimmo made an immediate impact, robbing a Ford defender of the ball and feeding it out wide to Gillies whose low ball into the near post was cut out.
Boyd was incredibly unlucky not to open his account after 63 mins. He sent a right foot curler toward goal that clattered off the inside of the left post before speeding across goal and hitting the other post before being cleared.
A minute later Nimmo was taken out but the referee deemed it to be a fair tackle and only gave Talbot the throw in.

In the 65th min Talbot had a chance to extend their lead. Boyd’s shot was blocked behind for a corner and when Gillies corner came over to the far post Nimmo got on the end of it but couldn’t get his shot away.

New signing Lewando Kazoka makes his debut.
The home side now made another change with Dunnett replacing McLean.
In the 68th min Main clipped a great ball over the defence to find Boyd racing away on the left. He cut in toward the penalty area but Frew did well to recover and snuff out the danger.
Talbot made their final changes in the 73rd minute with Kazoka & Boyle replacing Gillies & Sime.
With quarter of an hour to go Main lifted a ball over the top to pick out Boyd running in behind. He squared it to Wardrope who was challenged with the ball breaking out to Kazoka on the left of the area. He curled a good ball over to the back post but no one was there to apply the finishing touch.
A minute later Talbot made it 4-0. A ball up the left found Schoneville haring clear of the defence and he cut it back to CONNOR BOYD who placed it beyond McDonald.

In the 81st min Nimmo slid the ball to Main on the left of the area. He fired it on target where McDonald blocked it at his near post. The ball came out to Boyle at the edge of the area where he was shoved over as he went to hit it. Wardrope took the resultant free kick but sent it well over.

Luke Main is denied opening his Talbot account by the keepers boot.
Five mins from time Talbot were denied another by McDonald. A good spell of passing ended with a ball over the top releasing Boyd down the right. He fired it on target where McDonald made a good stop. The rebound came out to Wardrope who laid it off to Kazoka whose low drive on target was again stopped by McDonald but at a cost with the Ford keeper unable to continue and the sub goalie on for the closing stages.
The final whistle came as a relief to the home support on an afternoon when Talbot ran out 4-0 winners – a score line that by no means flattered Talbot.
Next up for the Bot it’s the midweek visit of Pollok where Talbot will be looking to keep their momentum going.
