Half time 4-1

TALBOT YOUTH ACADEMY

YOUTH ACADEMY REPORTS

2006 match report:

Only one game for the 06’s at Ayr academy against Valspar. A really good start to the game again from the Talbot boys but they found themselves going behind by two goals which really didn’t reflect the game. A good positive attack saw us pull one back through Harry Biggans just before halftime. Into the second half and the Talbot boys fought hard and played well in spells but again a couple of mistakes cost us dearly and Valspar took advantage. Unlucky day again for the 06’s and again the score didn’t reflect the game. Bit of work to do but lots of positives to take away from this game.

2003s….Wednesday        Talbot 0-2 Prestwick

One of those days where nothing went right for the Talbot boys and the performances we’ve been used to this season were below the usual standards and Prestwick deserved the points

Man, of the match: Gavin Withers

Saturday                       Cunninghame 3-4 Talbot

Slow first half with Cunninghame twice taking the lead but were pegged back by goals from Michael Kane and Jy Guthrie

Half time 2-2

Second half Talbot found their feet and put on a performance to enjoy with neat passes and the football was flowing, Michael Kane got his double and his 20th and 21st goal of the season to make it 3-2 before Jy Guthrie also hit his second of the match to make it 4-2 with 5 minutes remaining Cunninghame snagged a goal to make it 4-3 but Talbot saw the game out and took the points

Man, of the match: Michael Kane

2008s….

08s welcomed Shortlees BC to the Merlin park, for the first ever meeting of the teams

Blacks were looking to extend their undefeated run and right from the very start Talbot seemed up for the game. Wave after wave of attack eventually saw Talbot take full control of the game. The boys put together a few good moves working the ball through the middle then getting it out wide, although overall passing, movement and communication wasn’t at as a high a level as the week before, which will be worked on in training before next week’s game.

Golds recorded a very energetic performance for the duration of the match at the Merlin, utilising the space on the pitch to create good chances. A good attacking performance from Shortlees BC required the Talbot team to work hard defensively before starting any attack. Good pressure around the pitch resulted in Talbot regaining possession in good areas which created a lot of chances for us.

I’d like to add a special note of how pleased I was to see the team stick to their pre-match game plan, and also how they managed to keep focus on their positional discipline right through until the final whistle.

Another special thanks to outfielders Tommy and Ally who covered our Goalkeeping position in absence of our injured no.1 of whom we wish a speedy recovery.

We would like to wish Shortlees all the best for the Rest of their season.

TALBOT FOOTBALL ACADEMY

TALBOT 2003S

Talbot 4-0 Caley

First time on the Merlin this season after being on the astro and the lads looked nervous as the ball bobbled around and Caley handled themselves fine

Half time 0-0

Second half and with the boys finding their feet they played more assured football and started to turn it on,

Left back Logan “joe” Murray won the ball just inside the Caley half beat three then on his favoured right foot unleashed a shot from distance that blazed into the net 1-0,capitan Gavin withers then went up for a corner and won a header only for it to hit a Talbot man but he showed great awareness to still stab the ball home , jay Waddell almost made it 3 but for an outstanding last gasp challenge from the Caley defender, Talbot were in the groove and Kane and Guthrie were bringing out their bag of tricks and at this point the strikers took over after seeing the defenders score and first josh jones finishes well before Kyle Shankland finished the match off after good work from Michael Kane who cut it back

Man, of the match: Kyle Shankland

Hurlford 4-2 Talbot

League rivals Hurlford finally got the better of the Talbot boys to make the gap at the top 3 points

Hurlford went into an early lead before josh jones hit his 30th of the season to level it up, Hurlford again went in front but left back Logan Murray scored his second goal this week with a long range free kick to make things even at the break

Halftime 2-2

Second half Talbot started bright and but bad marking from a corner let them take a 3-2 lead, Hurlford started to look hungrier near the end a quick free kick caught the boys off guard and Hurlford scores to put the tie out of reach

Full time 4-2

Man, of the match: Kyle Shankland, for his drive and determination

2008s…..

Both teams traveled to Kilmarnock to face Dean Thistle.

Golds:-  Taking on the lessons learned from a poor performance last weekend and working on these at training. The game started off with great pace from all the players and a goal coming in for the golds shortly followed by another and the game was on, however an own goal brought Thistle back into the game. Going into the second half it was soon 2 each, some inspirational words given to the players and the goals started again with outstanding performance from all the team and a hat trick coming form Kaitlin, 2 from Tommy, goals from Douglas, Ally & Ayden to finish the match and all this without the No1 goalkeeper. A very special thanks from the coaches to Tommy & Ally for stepping into the nets, well done and we hope Connor is back for the home game against Shortlees this weekend.

Blacks:-  With only had 7 players available, so it looked like a difficult morning in the heat for the blacks. But this wasn’t the case as the blacks put in THE best performance seen by the team in a long time. With no subs, the players were instructed to move the ball quickly, and they did with every player involved in numerous free flowing passing moves and long spells in possession and scoring some beautiful goals. The best if the bunch came from a move that started with gk Kerr and every player involved in a quick tempo passing move and tapped home by Meikle.

Special mention to Kerr, Hayden, Watson, Reid, McCabe, Bishop & Meikle. All 7 player deserve all the credit for this performance.

Keep up the good work ⚽️⚽️

TALBOT FOOTBALL ACADEMY

U19s…..

Talbot travelled to Loch park to take on local rivals Glenafton. With only 12 available players today was always going to be a difficult game. The first half was a contrast of styles as Talbot tried to play their passing game and Glens playing long balls, with both teams creating chances but failing to take them. Half time 0-0

The second half started the same way with chances at both ends. Midway through the second half a fumble by the glens goalkeeper fell to McLean and he gave Talbot the lead. Talbot started to dominate the game but couldn’t get the second goal. With 5mins left Glenafton were awarded a very dubious penalty. Rooney got a hand to the penalty and was very unlucky not to keep it out.

Full time 1-1

2003….

Alba 3-3 Talbot

Alba went up 1-0 against the run of play and Talbot pegged them back with a debut goal from Callum McCoskrie

Half time 1-1

Second half bad decision making has let Alba go up 2-1

Talbot were then reduced to 10 men with a straight red which was a terrible decision from the Referee

Alba then made it 3-1 with yet again a bad decision by the Talbot lads to let them in

10 minutes to go 3-1 down and the boys pulled the socks up and dug deep and josh jones burst through and finished well under the goalie 3-2, jay Waddell then pulls the boys back level to make it 3-3, Talbot pushed for the win but unfortunately ran out of Time

Man, of the match: Callum McCoskrie

2006……

Only one game for the 06’s this weekend away to Dreghorn. Good start to the game from the Talbot boys. A few changes due to injuries changed the game a bit and Dreghorn started to control the play. Most of the first half continued the same way but we got a few glimpses of how well the Talbot boys can play. Into the second half and again the boys started well and had more of a say in the game. A good goal from Blair Rennie gave the boys a bit of a boost but we started to tire again late on. A few positives to take from the game but a bit of work to do for the 06’s.

2007….

Both Talbot teams were away at Ayr Boswell on Saturday morning.

The Blacks side started brightly and were playing excellent football, creating great opportunities. The Boswell goalkeeper deserves plaudits however as he pulled off a string of fine saves. The boys kept plugging away though and despite having no subs on a hot day, the effort and attitude they showed was first class.

The Golds side were involved in a very even first half and they too were playing good football. They lost a couple of soft goals before the break but they didn’t let that affect them as they dominated the second half. Again, their effort and attitudes were first class. Every player should be really proud of their performance.

2008….

Golds…. Home and back on the grass at the Merlin to Caledonian the golds struggled to get into the game with playing mostly on the defence. Caledonian took the lead and continued to control the play with more goals coming before half time. The golds had a few chances but couldn’t finish on them.

Golds came out on the second half and looked strong with some great play with Caledonian at times struggling to keep up, however some great saves from the Caledonian keeper kept the goals from coming. Caledonian then went on the score sheet again and the golds were back to a period of defending, goal came late in the second half from Douglas Schendel with a great strike. A very defensive game for the Golds this week…. Some work to be done for next week’s away game to Dean Thistle.

Blacks…

Following a free week, we were back to business with a tough home tie, hosting Caledonian at the Merlin.

Talbot started the strongest keeping a hold of the ball, stringing passes together and creating chances. Against the run of play Caledonian took the lead, but this didn’t let the boy’s heads drop, a few goals before half time reflected Talbot’s dominance in the first half. Second half kicked off and Talbot continued where they left off forcing Caley into mistake after mistake, the game as a contest was written off after a couple of Talbot goals put the game to bed. At this point a few showboat moves were on display, still continuing the high press, keeping possession with some intricate passing and chances still being created. A late Caley goal wasn’t enough to take the wind out of our sails and the boys enjoyed a comfortable victory against an opponent that always give a hard fixture. Man, of the match Phoenix McCutcheon.

The hard work will be continued at training ahead of our away fixture to Dean Thistle next Saturday.
